Project Descriptions

The construction of LRT Line 1 back in 1985 was a key moment in Metro Manila’s history. Involved in the review and evaluation of the design prepared by the turnkey contractor, as well as in construction supervision, DCCD worked alongside Electrowatt Engineering of Switzerland, playing an active role as DOTC’s Technical Consultant; this included the acquisition of the right-of-way for the project, relocation of utilities such as power lines, telephone lines, water lines, as well as review and approval of all technical aspects.

In 1997, the LRT Line 1 Capacity Expansion Project involved the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of 32 additional LRVs; the transformation of the existing 2-car to 3-car trains; the execution of corresponding adjustments or modifications to the existing LRV’s, power supply, catenary, tracks, signaling, structures, and workshop; and the provision of required spare parts. DCCD was also responsible for reviewing the existing system, having provided a basic/detailed design for the capacity expansion work of LRT Line 1.

In 2006, to ensure the safety of its passengers and the public, DCCD was commissioned to perform a structural investigation and retrofitting of the existing parapet walls along the LRT Line 1 carriageway, which also included an in-water visual inspection of the abutments of the Pasig River crossing.

In 2015, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) commissioned DCCD to perform a Fire and Life Safety Assessment Analysis for the LRT Line 1; this included a compliance survey/update for fire defects of the existing stations, guideway, and all depots, substations, and related buildings.
